Govan War Memorial

Complementing the improvements taking place to the streets and spaces at the Pearce Institute and the entrance to Govan Old, the Govan War Memorial is undergoing conservation repair.  Works to clean the bronze plaque, repoint the memorial and carry out a very gentle clean will take place in the summer of 2019.

Amazing News – Govan Reminiscence Group have found a copy of the original Govan Roll of Honour!  Against all the odds they tracked down a copy through a descendant of one of the original War Memorial Committee members and the help of Sheila Lawson, the owner of a croft on Skye where the documents were discovered.   A copy has now been transcribed and will be replaced in the copper casket for reburial in the Govan War Memorial at 11am on Tuesday 15th October 2019.  All are welcome down to see the casket before it is sealed away for another 100 years!

The full story of the Govan Roll of Honour will be told at a public event in 2020.  Watch this space for further details…
