Govan War Memorial

Complementing the improvements taking place to the streets and spaces at the Pearce Institute and the entrance to Govan Old, the Govan War Memorial has undergone conservation repair.  Works to clean the bronze plaque, repoint the memorial, realign the lion topped column and carry out a very gentle clean took place in the summer of 2019.

Good News

Amazing News – Govan Reminiscence has Group found a copy of the original Govan Roll of Honour!  Against all the odds they tracked down a copy through a descendant of one of the original War Memorial Committee members and the help of Sheila Lawson, the owner of a croft on Skye where the documents were discovered.   A copy was transcribed, replaced in the copper casket and reinterred in the Govan War Memorial on Tuesday 15th October 2019.

The remarkable story of the once missing now found Govan Roll of Honour was told at a public event held by the Govan Reminiscence on Sunday 13th November 2022. You can read all about it and the people whose names are captured on the roll of honour here.
