Govan Roll of Honour Returns

Come on down to the Govan War Memorial on Tuesday 15th October at 11am to see the copper casket containing the Govan Roll of Honour being re-inserted into the memorial before being sealed away with the return of the bronze plaque, completing the Govan Cross THI/CARS funded repair works.

Amazingly, the Govan Reminiscence Group tracked down a copy of the original Roll of Honour (which had sadly disintegrated due to water penetration within the memorial) through a descendant of one of the original War Memorial Committee members and the help of Sheila Lawson, the owner of a croft on Skye where the documents were discovered. This copy has now been transcribed and returned to the casket ready for re-burial, so that a record of the names of the Govanites lost during the First World War will remain in the Govan War Memorial as originally intended.

11am, Tuesday 15th October 2019, at the Govan War Memorial (beside the Pearce Institute), Govan Road, Govan G51 3UU.
