Founded in 1807, Bibby Line is today one of the world’s

oldest shipping companies in private ownership and

still owned and managed outright by the same family.

7.00 pm Shipbuilding in Govan until 1885

The foundation of marine engineering and shipbuilding

on the upper reaches of the Clyde were laid in Govan.

 

10th December Ian Johnston

7.00 pm The Fairfield Shipyard since 1886.

The remarkable if sometimes precarious story of

Glasgow’s famous and longest-lived shipyard.
